This is a terrible inside joke, but all jokes aside welcome to Mexican Hat, Utah. My husband, his little sister and I drove out over Memorial Day weekend to camp at the Valley of the Gods and visit Monument Valley. As we were driving to our campsite, I could not bring myself to look at anything other than this formation across the highway. I gave my husband "the look" and he knew, one way or another I was going to figure out to get over there. As it turns out, there's a nice dirt road just off the highway so route finding wasn't really an issue.
I really think this ridge (geologically speaking a more accurate term is "monocline") is such a cool example of how uplift and erosion shape our planet.
